Empathy Comics!

R.F. Morrison Has decided to take on a focus of the seven moral intelligences this year. Throughout the month of November our focus has been empathy. Alongside our lessons and discussions we have decided to show our learning by telling stories. The students in room 7 have used our brand new iPads to create comics that tell stories of empathy. Our class presented these comics during a school wide assembly. It was a tremendous success, and something that every member of the class should be very proud of.

Word study fun

We began our word study today. Everyone had a great time working at various activities that helped them with the words they chose to focus on this week. During our word study each student only focuses on ten words at a time. The words are chosen from their individual word banks, which only consist of words that were spelled incorrectly.

Looking forward to moving forward with this program!

"What does freedom mean to me?"

In talking about Remembrance Day, students in room 7 discussed what freedom means to them. We are remembering the people who have fought for Canada's freedom by writing letters to thank them. Here are the students thoughts on what freedom means.

Addition squares

We've kicked off our addition unit with a fun brain teaser. The numbers you insert into the boxes must add up vertically and horizontally to the totals outside of the boxes.

Click here for a link to more addition squares for you to try at home!

Great activity!

Estimation

Today students in Room 7 engaged in some terrific group work. As a part of our estimation unit, groups were given the task of estimating how many chairs are in R.F. Morrison School. This had to be done without leaving our classroom. Students were sharing fabulous ideas regarding strategies to base their estimations on. Communication, respect, and sharing were all a big part of this morning's lesson and activity. Our groups estimations were 327, 352, 290, 300, and 315. The highest estimate and lowest estimate were only 62 chairs apart; great use of estimation strategies Room 7!!

Our next step is to find out the exact answer to this problem. Stay posted for more!

Emotion poems

Room 7 students worked on finishing printed drafts of their emotion poems. They turned out great! We will be creating borders to frame them next.

Hundred chart tic tac toe

Ask your children about hundred chart tic tac toe. We had a great time playing it today, and it helps develop a sense of how to work with a hundred chart.

Classroom plant science experiment

We came into school on Monday and saw that our plant is beginning to die. We decided to set up a real science experiment to figure out how we can save our plant. Students had a hypothesis that the plant was getting too much sunlight, not enough water, and needed to be turned. Our procedure is to move the plant away from the window, turn it around, and give it 3/4 of a cup of water each school day. Stay posted for our observations.
